The Southeast is really a wide open mission field for all ages these days.  The horrible weather of the last several weeks has provided many opportunities for service.  There have been many creative ways developed in the minds of many people, some of them as young as our regular readers.

This group of first, second, and third graders met at the home of Mrs. Dana Waldrop on Monday, May 2, to put together first aid kits for use by the tornado survivors.  The workers are from Hueytown Baptist Church and Oak Grove Elementary School.  They delivered 100 first aid kits to the command centers in Concord and Pleasant Grove, Alabama, and gave eight animal leashes to the Humane Society command center in Pleasant Grove.  These young folks and their helpers worked very hard while they were on their last day out of school because of the bad weather.

Pictured here are Bethany and Kayla Hubbard from Brooklane Baptist Church.  They are two of a group of youth from that church who helped with the work in Pleasant Grove.  Others from their church included Josh Dudley and Abby Hall.  One site for their work was the home of Mary Esther Machen, one of their members whose home was destroyed by the tornado.  These five helped not only the Machen family but others in need in the area.  This church is also furnishing housing and food for young workers who have come to Birmingham to help with problems created by the storms.

Michael Hall is a part of the ALERT team that has been working in the western area of Jefferson County.  He is in his second year of training with ALERT and is about to graduate from Hope Christian School.  He has come here from Texas with about thirty more Christian young men to help clean up the destruction caused by the tornadoes.

All these young people are living out the lives of the sheep Jesus spoke of in Matthew 25.
